Fishing in North Carolina

The Outer Banks, two enormous sounds, the Intracoastal Waterway threading it all together, North Carolina packs a lot of water into one coastline. Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds give cruisers sheltered miles when the Atlantic is in a mood, and the inlets open to the ocean when it isn't. Marinas cluster in towns like Oriental, Beaufort, and Wilmington, serving both transient traffic and long-term slip holders, and the charter fleet covers the spread: offshore fishing, sightseeing runs, bareboat sailing.

The Piedmont keeps its own boating scene going far from salt water. Lake Norman, the largest man-made lake in the state, and Jordan Lake near Raleigh put serious acreage under powerboats, sailboats, and wakeboarders, with marinas handling slips, fuel, and repairs for a local community that's on the water most weekends. Drive from the coastal marshes to those forested lake shores and you've crossed the whole range of what the state offers a boater.
