Fishing in Wyoming

Nobody comes to Wyoming expecting a boating state, which is exactly why its reservoirs surprise people. Big man-made lakes sit in landscapes that run from high desert to pine forest, Flaming Gorge cutting through deep canyon country in the southwest, Jackson Lake holding glacial water under the Tetons. The distances between them are long, but the marinas on the major waters handle boats of all sizes and keep a short, hard-working season moving.

Boysen, Glendo, and Buffalo Bill carry much of the state's boating traffic: big open water for powerboats, skiers, wakeboarders, and sailors, with room to spread out. Marinas on these reservoirs cover the essentials: fuel, transient slips, launch ramps. And the scenery does something no coastal marina can match: the Wind River Range, the Bighorns, or the Red Desert standing over the water, wilderness in every direction from the boat.
